Microalgae grow naturally in water. You recognize them as the green layer in rivers. They can also grow very efficiently in fermenters thirty times faster than land crops, requiring 94% less water than soybeans
We supply sugars from food production side streams - such as beet molasses. We then add a small amount of nutrients like Nitrogen and Phosphorus, and we bubble air needed by the microalgae to breathe.
After only 5 days, the microalgae grow by twenty times and are harvested. The slurry is packed with nutrients of animal-nutrition level, including proteins, oils, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fibers. We de-water the slurry to remove the remaining nutrients and sugars and prepare the microalgae for extraction.
We use our patented nature-inspired innovation to extract several ingredients in one process without using chemicals or excessive energy. We simply reverse the different structures of the microalgae cell by understanding why they evolved in the first place, then we apply a sequence of steps to dismantle the cell. At each step, a new ingredient is released unharmed.
This innovation is not only the first to extract several ingredients in the same process, but it also preserves the native structure of the ingredients which gives them their functional properties like gelling, emulsification, and foaming.
